@drethekiller Ia up concordo, se bem que para o fazer com os produtos reais (como o tomate) o chefe teria que alterar a ordem dos ingredientes. O tipo não é assim muito honesto quanto á verdadeira cozinha Portuguesa. Quanto ao facto de a Cataplana ser originária do Norte de África... Bem é comum em Portugal odptarem-se os costumes de outros países, sobretudo porque a propria população portuguesa é uma autêntica "mistura".

I've worked in several restaurants in the Algarve (southern Portugal) and cataplana is never made like this. It is made from a reduction of fresh tomatoes, rather than tomato sauce, and the seafood is added last. The essential spices are paprika and nutmeg.

@AliciaKhan Happy Ramadan! The color of the idli will depend on how much you roast the rava. If you remove it from the pan as soon as you see brown streaks, the color of the idli will remain white. Not sure about the coriander...we did not do anything differently besides place it in the mould.

I made the delicious Rava version for Iftaar (our breakin of fast durin the holy month of Ramzan) and it turned out quite good except for the color..It wasn't as white but brownish and even the coriander used for garnishing lost its color (I'm sad, I want my idlis as pretty as yours!)...But anyways, it was quick n yummy...thankoooooo chooo muchhhh!

Shukriya !! My first ever Idlis turned out quite good but not as beautiful..They looked kinda brownish in color (not white like yours) and even the coriander leaves used for garnishin lost its color, otherwise it tasted good..Made it for Iftar (the breakin of our fast in the holy month of Ramzan )...thank youuuuuu!!!!

@ShowMeTheCurry Hey, thanks for the reply. Do you want to know the result? Yesterday on lunch I experimented my first every Idli cooking, just for me and my friend. And wow, it turned out great. However I had added ginger and chili in tadka, and not with the curd. We decided to repeat it in the evening for dinner for more ppl. And wow, in the dinner the Idlis turned out to be equally great along with Sambhar, however a bit too spicy for the girls as I put more ginger. Told my mom too! Thanks:)

Hi, tomorrow I am planning to prepare Idli for my Portuguese friends here. I have brought the Idli stand from home this time. And your video made it so easy for me. I think I will just have to buy ENO (I don't keep it here). I was looking for some Idli recipe because I am not sure if I need to keep the ground rice+urad mixture overnight for it to rise. You can make pectin from the rind of citrus fruit or tart apples. This would be the more sustainable approach, store bought pectin will not be a natural as homemade pectin from organic fruits. Stick lemon skins and membranes in a jelly bag, boil and then squeeze out the pectin. Works great.

Looking amazing as always! We never have enough blueberries to make anything out of them, they're too tasty raw. Blackberry and strawberry jelly on the other hand (mostly jam for strawberry), make up 80% of our preserve needs for the year. The other 20% is plum from our tree out back). I've only had store bought a few times, pales in comparison. Tiny jars though, we do pints and I think we go through two a month for sure. Of course we're a family of 4 and everyone loves PB&J! @Glendicious i've made a batch today with a stiff peaks recipe and it came out fine. I realise that the way he incorporates e egg whites with the icing sugar mixture it seems that he is trying to deflate the egg whites so e macarons won't have like a pouffy shell. So maybe stiff egg whites allow for more or less careful folding, and soft/firm peaks calls for more careful folding. Just my 2cents, not a macarons expert anyhow haha. :)

@amydeshpande You can use about 1/2 package. Frozen methi is really compacted in the package so you get a lot more.

Yes, you can substitute it with Palak (Spinach) but you will have to use a lot more in quantity. Methi has a very strong flavor so we use very little. Check out our website for a great Spinach and Carrots Pulao, it is amazing!

You can get fresh or dry fenugreek leaves at most Indian grocery stores. The dry one is called "Kasuri Methi". The fresh ones are also available in some of the health food or farmer's market type stores. Using fenugreek powder will not give you the proper effect of this recipe.

Wow this looks good will try. i'm one of the strange ppl that enjoys the bitter taste of methi and karela etc. I nearly always replace all palak dishes with methi. But I can see that in dishes like this it might be an idea to get lessen the bitterness. but seeing as its me i'll skip the salting bit and try it that way.
